1. WHAT IS PREMARITAL COUNSELING?

  • Premarital counseling is proactive planning and preparation for marriage. It is intended to help couples uncover important issues ranging from finances, conflict resolution, family and health history, strengths and growth areas, household roles and responsibilities, personality similarities and differences, etc.,. In order to support a successful experience, CLS professionals require clients to complete a series of assessments as an integral port of the onboarding process.

2. WHAT IS MARRIAGE COUNSELING?

  • Marriage counseling is utilized as a wellness checkup (i.e. audit).  After the wedding ceremony or after the 25th wedding anniversary celebration, take inventory of their intrapersonal and interpersonal relationship satisfaction. CLS clients are advised to have either a 3 month and 9 month or a 6 month and 12 month follow-up session.  This process reinforces the skills learned during initial premarital sessions or it serves as an opportunity to learn new skills for couples who did not get premarital counseling. Couples are encouraged to remain proactive instead of reactive, thus handling conflict and life circumstances with solid strategies and strategic thinking.

  • Premarital counseling is most beneficial for couples that are committed to learning, growing and building a strong  foundation. The CLS team helps couples build a healthy life story. 5. WHERE DO COUNSELING SESIONS TAKE PLACE?

 

  • Counseling sessions occur in person (i.e. face-to-face) or virtually.  Many of our local, national, and international clients, groups and organizations desire quick response times, consistency, privacy, exceptional customer experience and care. The goal is to provide accessible supports and resources from the convenience of the home or nearby location. Chosen Life Specialists travel to facilitate live sessions, trainings, conferences, boot camps and more. Technology also serves as a way to maintain the health and wellness and convenience of clients who prefer the new wave of telehealth services.  

    • In a 2018 meta-analysis of 20 studies involving more than 1,400 patients found that the therapy is equally effective whether delivered in person or online. “You can do it individually or in groups, by telephone or by Internet interventions, and the effects are not different,” says clinical psychologist Pim Cuijpers of Vrije University in Amsterdam, a co-author of the meta-analysis and of many studies on remote therapies.

 6. WHEN SHOULD A COUPLE BEGIN PERMARITAL COUNSELING?

  • Counseling sessions are encouraged to begin at least 12 months before the wedding date or prior.  This time permits the couple to have a 24-hour comprehensive counseling experience unpacking the details of their intrapersonal and interpersonal relationship. However, there are couples who have demanding lives and prefer to have a concentrated premarital counseling experience that largely focuses on the interpersonal relationship. Couples are vastly unique and many have confidently chosen to complete an 8 hour program that focuses on their assessment data.      â€‹

 7. WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE SESSION/APPOINTMENT?

  • Chosen Life Specialists, LLC is called to challenge and chance relationship culture. This commitment to our clients ensures that we "inspect" what the client "expect."  The most important work is completed outside of the session. It is recommended to clients to purchase and/or bring a journal to the session to take notes, reflect and complete thought-provoking tasks that lead to deeper insight and introspection.  â€‹
